Weekend Roundup 8/8

August 06, 2009

Weekend Roundup

Traveling with the kids is such a chore, but remember that you are creating memories for them.  It's what you signed up for when you had kids, so you might as well accept that a vacation with them is not actually a vacation for you.  I learned that lesson again when my family went camping last weekend at Pismo Beach.  Read our story here.

For the next few weekends we'll be in Connecticut.  "Summering in Connecticut" as I like to say, even though it's only for most of August.  We'll enjoy the hot sticky weather there, and then come back to Los Angeles to cool off.  It's a dry heat.

While we're away I will continue to highlight activities and ideas for you and your preschoolers.  Here are a few gems for this weekend:

TONIGHT - Thursday August 6
Summer Twilight Thursdays continue at Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge.  An Afro-Brazilian group sings, you recline on a blanket with a picnic dinner, the kids scamper about, chasing butterflies.  It's a pretty picture.

SATURDAY - August 8
Consider taking advantage of Katie's Cooking School's parent's night out.  Drop off at 6:30 - your kids make a yummy treat and get to play, then you pick them up at 10:30.  Everybody wins.

FRIDAY - SUNDAY

Free concerts continue in the evening at Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena

Sit! Stay! We'll Be Back in a Few Hours!

October 24, 2008

When Kyle was a baby and even up until his little brother was born, it wasn't very hard to find someone to watch him so that Stewart and I could go out for a few hours. But after we had Brady, I didn't often want to ask our friends to watch TWO kids, especially since the older one had moved firmly into his, how shall I say, precocious years. So we didn't go out for a while. And then along came  Read more...

Weekend Roundup October 18-19

October 17, 2008

There's a hodgepodge of neat events I want to tell you about before I jet off to London this weekend. Yes, that is right, this frumpy mom who writes this column in her pajamas is turning into her alter ego - TV Producer Lady - and flying off to far away lands. I'm going to scope the town out for kid-friendliness while I'm there and I promise to tell you all about it. In the  Read more...

Five Places To Meet Your Girlfriends (or Guyfriends, and/or their kids)

September 16, 2008

Sometimes the best medicine for coping with parenthood is sitting down with a friend or two or seven over a meal, cup of coffee, or cocktail and an hour, or two, or seven of good old-fashioned conversation. Here are some great places to meet friends in and around The Valley. Of course, it's always great to get a grown-up break, but if you must bring your kids along, these places still work.  Read more...

Places To Make Friends

June 18, 2008

I relocated to Los Angeles when 24 and I only knew one person here. After a few years I managed to make some good friends. What I didn't know was that I wouldn't build a true community until I had children. By some great biological miracle, I gave birth to my first son during the same season as a gaggle of other women who really were just like me same age range, educational level,  Read more...
